Are you searching for ancestors among the Swiss settlers of New Glarus and their descendants?  You may want to start your research online by looking through the Familien Buchs. The Familien Buchs are the records of births, confirmations, marriages and deaths maintained by the settler’s church. The Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus has preserved these historical documents of its church and community and made them available in the University of Wisconsin Digital Collections. 

If you prefer hands-on research, the New Glarus Historical Society has transferred the family information from the Familien Buchs to index cards, arranged alphabetically.  This information is available at the museum during normal business hours, by appointment.  You can find more information about access to the archives and library at our Policy page.
